How to match your wedding dress with the perfect jewellery

August 1, 2014

When searching for your dream wedding dress, you'll no doubt be thinking about the accessories and jewellery that can go with it.

Here are some tips to make sure your dress and jewellery complement each other perfectly.

1 – Base your jewels around your dress

In the vast majority of cases, a wedding dress is the standout feature of a bride's overall ensemble. That's why it's a good idea to decide upon your dress first, and work your jewellery look around what suits that style. Avoid looking at jewellery until you have picked out your dress to prevent having your heart set on something that might not be the perfect match for your gown.

2 – Consider your dress' shape and silhouette

Different dress shapes and styles suit different jewellery. Your gown's neckline in particular will be a deciding factor in the type of jewellery you choose. A deep V-neck gown, for example, looks great with a delicate pendant necklace. On the other hand, a sweetheart strapless neckline can look great left bare with statement earrings providing a touch of decoration instead.

If your dress is simple, you may want to opt for more statement jewellery, while if your dress is already quite ornate and features delicate detail, it might be better to opt for just a small hint of plain jewellery.

You can also take into account the overall style of your dress. Pearls go fantastically with a vintage gown, while a colourful, bold necklace can look amazing with a bohemian-inspired dress.

3 – Don't overdo it

Don't feel like you have to wear a hairpiece, a necklace, earrings and a bracelet just because it's your wedding day and everything's so pretty. Instead, choose one item to draw in the attention and be the main focus.

With these tips in mind, you'll no doubt be able to find jewels that add to the allure of your outfit in all the right ways.
